What kind of filtering media/carbon is used in the Carbon Series Premium Filter Systems?

The Pelican™ Carbon Series utilizes carbon made from Sri Lankan coconut shell and produced to achieve a carbon tetrachloride activity (CTC) range of 45% to 95%. The ability to produce such a high micro porous surface area is very limited, not a lot of manufacturers can do this on a regular basis. It also has a high hardness and low water soluble ash. The carbon is NSF 42 certified.

In addition the Pelican™ Carbon Series utilizes non-chemically impregnated activated carbon. It has been surface modified during manufacturing, to significantly enhance the carbons' capabilities for rapidly decomposing noxious compounds.

The carbons used in the Pelican™ Carbon Series Systems are all produced from high quality coconut shell carbons, and in addition to their capacity to handle sulfides etc. They have much higher surface areas than most other competitive brands. This enables them to remove larger quantities of other organic species which may be present in the system. This carbon is also NSF Certified and meets or exceeds all food chemical codex, AWWA and ASTM Protocols. NSF Certified Standard 42

How does the Pelican™ Carbon Series address bacteria?

Public water systems must treat for disease causing bacteria; therefore, the likelihood of disease causing bacteria being introduced to an Activated Carbon filter from public drinking water is remote. Activated Carbon and KDF filtration should only be used on water that has been tested and found to be bacteria free or effectively treated for pathogenic bacteria.  If bacteria are present in the water supply it is recommended that some type of treatment be implemented to prevent microbiological contamination.
